About
Funky & Fresh
I am a graduate student at University of Memphis where I am proud to be a graduate assistant! I am currently assisting Dr. Yang and Dr. Wang in their research.
I am also honored to be an alumna of Marshall University in Huntington, WV. At Marshall I worked in the newsroom of The Parthenon as a staff reporter and columnist, as well as in the studio of the radio station WMUL as the social media manager, news anchor, weather girl, and occasional producer. I was granted a research grant in 2023 to research music as a form of advocacy journalism, and later gave my first formal presentation at the 2024 Student Research & Creativity Symposium. I also worked directly with President Brad D. Smith on the presidential Title IX Task Force in efforts to improve the school’s Title IX policies. As co-chair, I lead the students in creating seven new policies, all of which got passed and are current in effect, in order to empower and support student, faculty, and staff against sexual based offenses, stalking, and gender discrimination. Of this I am infinitely proud.
I have a podcast called “Should I Write or Should I Rock,” about my personal research on music as advocacy journalism. Currently there are only two episodes, but I am working on more! You can find it on SoundCloud.
In 2023 I went to New York City to serve the United Nations as a NGO for the 67th Commission on the Status of Women where we came together to learn and create global governance related to internet safety and inclusion of women and girls.
I have a tendency to manage social media accounts, including Fredericksburg Theatre Ensemble, the podcast musical “With Love, Victoria,” Marshall UKIRK, and I used to run the online calendar of Fallout in Richmond, Virginia.
Outside of academics, I love to read, sing, craft, put together Legos, watch TV shows made by Mike Flanagan, visit my best friends and their children in London, road trip around the United States, eat food I didn’t cook, watch comedy specials, and see musicals. I am typically found cleaning my apartment while watching a teen drama from the 2000s and wishing I had a dog.
